Brewers reconstruct Francisco Rodriguez's contract?
With speculation running rampant on whether or not the Brewers would lessen the workload of their newly acquired closer Francisco Rodriguez, we finally have an answer. For those that were unaware Francisco's contract specified that if he were to finish 21 more games this season it would net him a grand total of $17.5 million for the 2012 season. But the Brewers along with Rodriguez and new agent Scott Boras agreed to a compromise that would allow the option to be mutual meaning that both sides would have to agree to pick up the $17.5 million. This deal makes some sense for both sides as it allows the Brewers to save up some money for a possible Prince Fielder contract proposal and also allows them to use Francisco whenever necessary. Why this works wonders for Francisco is because it allows Francisco to possibility to hit the free agent market and have Scott Boras net Rodriguez another multi year deal, and also gives him the chance of earning $17.5 million in 2012 if Milwaukee decides to pick up his option.
